Is Tom Cruise Autistic?

Since Tom Cruise gained worldwide movie star fame in the 1980s and 1990s, he's been one of the most sought-after Hollywood actors of all time.

But being famous isn't without its gossip. Instantly recognizable, Tom has had an explosive career filled with charity, love, and quite a bit of controversy.

Though even that has taken place in his personal life, his marriages, and activities surrounding his faith, Tom has been rumored to have autism.

The characteristics of autism are numerous and can vary based on the severity of a diagnosis.

It should be noted, however, that he has never officially admitted to having autism, nor has anyone close to him come forward with a similar accusation.

Tom's personality seems a bit friendly toward the media during interviews but simultaneously reserved.

In his infamous now infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey, he jumped on the couch and appeared very excited.

But in another with Matt Laurer, his demeanor fluctuated from reserved, and annoyed, to nearly agitated. People with autism can show personality characteristics as those without.

According to some that have studied his acting in films and behavior off-screen, his having the disorder, whether diagnosed or not, wouldn't be surprising in the least.

Although it may be seen that Tom is very outgoing and talkative, people claiming to have worked with him maintain that he's fiercely meticulous, in a world of his own, and doesn't respond well when things don't go according to plan.

Some that have ASD aren't gregarious and are at risk of getting upset through not knowing how to get their point across clearly.

In interviews, these are arguably exhibited, though not all the time. He doesn't appear to have a problem looking at people, something those with autism may struggle with their entire lives.

To summarize, Tom Cruise may or may not have autism. He's a movie star that lives a life quite private, though some run-ins with interviews and other media figures show that he's not always comfortable in social spaces.

Energetic and charming in the films he's starred in, his demeanor is sometimes the opposite at the times he's been spotted by paparazzi and on live television.

His awkwardness has been interpreted as possible autism symptoms, but outside of him making a statement about it he disclosed his medical history, and there's no way of knowing with absolute certainty.
