Cross River Therapy is proud to offer no-cost autism evaluations for children 4 years old and under seeking ABA therapy services at our Bryant, AR clinic, as part of our intake process.

This no-cost autism evaluation helps families begin the path to effective applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy, limiting the significant waitlist and financial barrier that often comes with an initial autism evaluation in Arkansas.

Disclaimer: Evaluations are part of the ABA therapy intake process at Cross River Therapy and are only available for children under age 5 (up to 4 years, 11 months) in our service areas. We do not charge for evaluations provided through our program at this time. Availability is limited and not guaranteed. From your first form to personalized therapy - we handle the details so you can focus on your child.

Steps to Begin ABA Therapy in Arkansas (Medicaid / PASSE)

  • Two-Prong Diagnosis: Two of the following providers must confirm autism: psychologist/psychiatrist, speech-language pathologist, or MD/DO. If you only have one, we can help guide you with obtaining the second.

  • Doctor’s Referral: Your child’s PCP completes the DMS 641-ER form.

  • Insurance Review: Medicaid/PASSE reviews coverage to approve ABA therapy.

Arkansas requires what is called a "two-prong diagnosis" to receive ABA therapy. This means an initial diagnosis must be given by a speech language pathologist and/or psychiatrist/psychologist, as well as the child's doctor. Once this is completed, they are then eligible for ABA therapy. If you notice symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorder in your child, please contact their doctor for an evaluation referral. For common signs and symptoms of Autism, please check out our FAQ section.

Private insurances have different requirements. Please contact us for guidance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does early intervention help autism treatment via ABA therapy?

Yes, early intervention greatly enhances the effectiveness of ABA therapy for children with autism. The earlier a child begins therapy, the more opportunities there are for positive development in communication, social skills, and adaptive behaviors. ABA helps build positive behaviors and reduce challenges at a stage when a child’s brain is most flexible and responsive to learning.

Are two year olds too young for ABA therapy?

No, two-year-olds are not too young for ABA therapy. In fact, ages 18 to 36 months are often considered the most beneficial time to start, as children are rapidly developing language, social interaction, and foundational life skills. ABA programs can be fully customized to a child’s developmental stage, using play-based and positive reinforcement techniques appropriate for young learners.

When is the earliest ABA therapy can be effective?

ABA therapy can be effective as early as 18 months old, depending on each child’s needs and readiness. Research consistently shows that children who begin ABA early make greater progress in communication, attention, and social behavior compared to those who start later. The key is consistency and active family involvement throughout the process.
